Watch: The 1981 Animated Film âHeavy Metalâ for Free

1981 brought us a lot of things. The R-rated animated feature Heavy Metal was one of those.

Heavy Metal is now online to watch for free at Crackle.

Due to its rating, you have to sign in to watch it, but sign-up is
free and quick and thereâs even an option to sign in using your
Facebook account (even quicker). While the movie is free to watch, it
does have periodic but quick commercial interruptions.

John Candy, Eugene Levy, and Harold Ramis, among others, voice the characters in this scifi animated film, based on the Heavy Metal magazine. The soundtrack is packed with great tunes from Stevie Nicks, Black Sabbath, Cheap Trick, and more, including the title track by Sammy Hagar.

Tidbit: In the âSo Beautiful and So Dangerousâ sequence with the
stoned aliens about 53 minutes into the film, one of the ships that
passes by is the USS Enterprise of Star Trek fame. Very cool!

Anticipating the Xbox Live November Update - by Craig Miller

Anticipation for the Xbox Live Update is growing. On November 17, 2009 we will have a lot more options available to those of us with an Xbox Live Gold Membership.
Things to look forward to are:

Twitter. Giving all the people that can't already tweet enough, an added vice.

Last.FM. Listen to the music you love as the tunes are pumped out of your TV to your Surround Sound.

Zune is coming offering you streaming HD movies.

Facebook. Take pictures and post them on your Facebook directly from your couch.

These are all great things to look forward to. However November brings not only a great update, but some of the most anticipated games for 2009. November should be the month that gamers gamers and social networking whores can be thankful for.

Thanks Microsoft!

In my opinion, I can personally do without the Facebook and Twitter add-on. But, I think that Last.Fm could be a really cool addition. Most people have the biggest and best sound system in their house located in the living room (or wherever the TV is located). Last.Fm could possibly be my saving grace. You see, I live in a smaller town were there are few radio stations to chose from. I listen to CD's all the time, but in order to hear new music I have to either go visit a bigger city or hop on the internet. If I can have the opportunity to hear new music while still vegging in front of my TV, that in my head is a plus. The only thing I think would be cooler, is if you can still play multiplayer games online while still streaming the feed from your last.fm account.

The Analog Hole Could Kill HDTV's As We Know Them

Posted By: Brian Hendrickson

In 2005, the Senate
Judiciary Committee held a hearing in regard to the plague of pirated movies which was occurring through the so-called
"analog hole." (For non-engineers, the "analog hole" is the movie
industry's term for any content-playing device connected to a TV
through the red, blue and green multi-use port on the back of millions
of TV sets.) The Motion Picture Association
of America (MPAA), argued that consumers would export movies through the analog
output, stealing content and sending it out over the Internet.

Committee leaders didn't seem convinced
that the analog connections on TV's were leading to piracy.

MPAA is now back before the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) - pleading for
permission to disable lawfully purchased HDTV-capable TVs. Using an
obscure procedural mechanism, MPAA is asking the FCC for authority to
use "selectable output control" (SOC) to shut off TVs that don't use
the preferred digital connections. (Again for
the non-engineers, SOC allows content providers to shut off the video
stream to any TV that is receiving content over a non-favored
connection, such as analog.)

Some movie studio officials have agreed publicly that the
biggest source of piracy comes from video cameras in the actual theater, operated by a movie patron while hidden under a coat.

The reason is not as much about movie piracy, but rather
the control of your HDTV. By turning off an individual TV at will, the
studios gain power over a viewer's TV experience.
If successful, viewers will only be able to watch movies when,
where and how Hollywood dictates.

"We will soon learn whether the "new FCC" is a reality. We hope they
understand that to take away the consumer's ability to shift lawfully
acquired content based on the speculation and whims of the MPAA is bad
policy. That is why every major consumer group is on record opposing
it. That is why we oppose it." (Gary Shapiro. Nov 12, 2009. Dear FCC, Please don't let Hollywood break my TV)

Gamers Killed the Video Star

Posted by: Brian Hendrickson

Gamers are purchasing a lot more PS3's since price drop in September. But, according to PS3 owners, Blu-ray movies aren't a big driving force to get the console.

"When PS3 owners where asked why they purchased the console,
58% said it was mostly to play games; 34% said it was for enjoying
games and Blu-ray movies equally; and 8% said mostly for Blu-ray
movies. And according to study in August 2009, 34% of PS3 owners had
never tried to watch Blu-ray movies on their machine. That result is
virtually unchanged from responses given during a similar study in
August 2008.

Two-thirds of PS3 owners had watched Blu-ray movies, however, which
is a higher percentage of owners who watched DVDs on the PlayStation 2
at a similar point in its lifecycle, according to NPD."(Susanne Ault. Oct 2009. Consoles are selling faster, but most buyers are using it to play games)

Obviously, Ms. Ault has never tried to watch a DVD with a PS2... It was a pain. But that's another story for another day...

It amazes me that people don't know what to think when you would drop $300 on something that was designed to play games, and end up doing just that. Screw using the Blu-ray player to watch movies... I want my backwards compatibility Sony!

[Prototype] - A Review by Craig Miller

The game is set in New York City just as a virus begins to infect people and as the military attempts to put an end to it. The story is focused on Alex Mercer, who has no memory of his recent past. As the game begins Alex has enemy-absorbing and shape-shifting powers. He can take memories, experience and physical forms of enemies through absorption. Alex can also shapeshift into more specialized forms for attack. All of these together are intended to give players
multiple ways to complete their objectives. (Wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prototype_(video_game))
-------------------------
The Review

As the game starts out in the prologue, you have a large array of attacks available to you. These attacks all but disappear as the actual gameplay begins.
Control-wise I don't have a lot to really complain about. I really liked how easy it was to get around the city. It gets even better as you progress through the game, purchasing upgrades with the experience points you earn. I really reminded me of the Spider-Man games, with the way you move around the city. You don't have the ability to fly or swing on webs, but you can run incredibly fast and jump extremely high.
I wasn't able to complete the entire game, but I was able to get more than half of the way through it. The story was interesting enough that I wanted to continue through the game to learn more. As you go through the game there are 'key' individuals that you have to consume in order to either get information about your current mission, get info about your past, to gain a 'costume' so you can enter restricted areas, or operate vehicles or weapons.

The Onion AV Club gave the game an "A" ranking, calling the movement style "exhilarating"
and saying it was a "mature, science-fiction superhero fantasy that
somehow makes players feel simultaneously powerful and vulnerable."
I would have to say that I agree.

Episode 28 - No News is Good News?

Posted By: Skyler Saville and Rustin Harris

After taking a few weeks off to vacation and take some much needed time off of work, we finally manage to get ourselves back into the habit of recording a show.

Skyler was gone for about a week as he made his way to Salt Lake City to celebrate the 4th of July with his family.

Rustin (along with his wife) went on to California for a week to relax, read, and ride rides. He also celebrated his birthday since we last recorded.

In this episode:

Transformers 2 Movie and Video Game Review

Ghostbusters Video Game Review

Far Cry 2

and more...

Keep an ear peeled for next weeks episode, because Rustin has A LOT of comics he wants to talk about.

Also F.Y.I.- Registration for CES 2010 is free right now until October 1! It will take place in Vegas from January 7-10. We would love to see you there if that is something you would be able to attend.

Episode 27 - Drowning in Mediocrity (or the WoRzt of Res3t R4Di0)

Posted by: Skyler Saville and Rustin Harris

This is a collection of snippets from our past episodes. They have been resurrected from the cutting room floor and are now all here in this wonderful episode, all for your listening pleasure.

I usually list the items that we cover in this space right here... but seeing as we didn't cover a whole hell of a lot, I decided to just go a head and type anything I feel like typing.

Don't skip to the end of the episode, but there is a tribute to The King of Poop... er, I mean Pop.

We will plan on recording next week, until then... Keep on treading the waters of mediocrity!

Join our forums at http://resetradio.forumsland.com

It's been a while since we last graced you all with our words of wisdom...

First thing first, let's talk about the news that was dropped a few weeks ago at E3. (You know... the stuff we already covered in the blog post)

Welcome to the Second Season of the Reset Radio Podcast! I guess if you wanted to get technical about it, this would really be our third season. But that's only if you counted the forever long hiatus that we took about a year ago.

New things to look forward to this "season"...

* We resurrected our forums over at forumsland.com so we can get more direct feedback about the show and the direction we are heading.

* The "Jam of the Month Club". We touched on this in the forums a bit, so if you are curious to find out more about this new addition to the Reset Radio line-up, you can know exactly when we plan on dropping this little bomb.

* More interviews. Starting with local artist Chad Hardin. You can check out his stuff over on his blog.

* All this and MUCH more!!!

Don't forget to add us to your Facebook friends. Here is the link to our profile.

Also follow us on twitter.

Or just send us a good old email at reset_radio@hotmail.com
