1981 brought us a lot of things. The R-rated animated feature Heavy Metal was one of those.

Heavy Metal is now online to watch for free at Crackle.

Due to its rating, you have to sign in to watch it, but sign-up is free and quick and there’s even an option to sign in using your Facebook account (even quicker). While the movie is free to watch, it does have periodic but quick commercial interruptions.

John Candy, Eugene Levy, and Harold Ramis, among others, voice the characters in this scifi animated film, based on the Heavy Metal magazine. The soundtrack is packed with great tunes from Stevie Nicks, Black Sabbath, Cheap Trick, and more, including the title track by Sammy Hagar.

Tidbit: In the “So Beautiful and So Dangerous” sequence with the stoned aliens about 53 minutes into the film, one of the ships that passes by is the USS Enterprise of Star Trek fame. Very cool!

Anticipation for the Xbox Live Update is growing. On November 17, 2009 we will have a lot more options available to those of us with an Xbox Live Gold Membership.
Things to look forward to are:
  1. Twitter. Giving all the people that can't already tweet enough, an added vice.
  2. Last.FM. Listen to the music you love as the tunes are pumped out of your TV to your Surround Sound.
  3. Zune is coming offering you streaming HD movies.
  4. Facebook. Take pictures and post them on your Facebook directly from your couch.
These are all great things to look forward to. However November brings not only a great update, but some of the most anticipated games for 2009. November should be the month that gamers gamers and social networking whores can be thankful for.

Thanks Microsoft!

In my opinion, I can personally do without the Facebook and Twitter add-on.  But, I think that Last.Fm could be a really cool addition. Most people have the biggest and best sound system in their house located in the living room (or wherever the TV is located). Last.Fm could possibly be my saving grace. You see, I live in a smaller town were there are few radio stations to chose from. I listen to CD's all the time, but in order to hear new music I have to either go visit a bigger city or hop on the internet. If I can have the opportunity to hear new music while still vegging in front of my TV, that in my head is a plus. The only thing I think would be cooler, is if you can still play multiplayer games online while still streaming the feed from your last.fm account.

In 2005, the Senate Judiciary Committee held a hearing in regard to the plague of pirated movies which was occurring through the so-called "analog hole." (For non-engineers, the "analog hole" is the movie industry's term for any content-playing device connected to a TV through the red, blue and green multi-use port on the back of millions of TV sets.) The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), argued that consumers would export movies through the analog output, stealing content and sending it out over the Internet.

Committee leaders didn't seem convinced that the analog connections on TV's were leading to piracy.

MPAA is now back before the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) - pleading for permission to disable lawfully purchased HDTV-capable TVs. Using an obscure procedural mechanism, MPAA is asking the FCC for authority to use "selectable output control" (SOC) to shut off TVs that don't use the preferred digital connections. (Again for the non-engineers, SOC allows content providers to shut off the video stream to any TV that is receiving content over a non-favored connection, such as analog.)

Some movie studio officials have agreed publicly that the biggest source of piracy comes from video cameras in the actual theater, operated by a movie patron while hidden under a coat.

The reason is not as much about movie piracy, but rather the control of your HDTV. By turning off an individual TV at will, the studios gain power over a viewer's TV experience. If successful, viewers will only be able to watch movies when, where and how Hollywood dictates.

"We will soon learn whether the "new FCC" is a reality. We hope they understand that to take away the consumer's ability to shift lawfully acquired content based on the speculation and whims of the MPAA is bad policy. That is why every major consumer group is on record opposing it. That is why we oppose it." (Gary Shapiro. Nov 12, 2009. Dear FCC, Please don't let Hollywood break my TV)

Gamers are purchasing a lot more PS3's since price drop in September. But, according to PS3 owners, Blu-ray movies aren't a big driving force to get the console.

"When PS3 owners where asked why they purchased the console, 58% said it was mostly to play games; 34% said it was for enjoying games and Blu-ray movies equally; and 8% said mostly for Blu-ray movies. And according to study in August 2009, 34% of PS3 owners had never tried to watch Blu-ray movies on their machine. That result is virtually unchanged from responses given during a similar study in August 2008.

Two-thirds of PS3 owners had watched Blu-ray movies, however, which is a higher percentage of owners who watched DVDs on the PlayStation 2 at a similar point in its lifecycle, according to NPD."(Susanne Ault. Oct 2009. Consoles are selling faster, but most buyers are using it to play games)

Obviously, Ms. Ault has never tried to watch a DVD with a PS2... It was a pain. But that's another story for another day...

It amazes me that people don't know what to think when you would drop $300 on something that was designed to play games, and end up doing just that. Screw using the Blu-ray player to watch movies... I want my backwards compatibility Sony!

The game is set in New York City just as a virus begins to infect people and as the military attempts to put an end to it. The story is focused on Alex Mercer, who has no memory of his recent past. As the game begins Alex has enemy-absorbing and shape-shifting powers. He can take memories, experience and physical forms of enemies through absorption. Alex can also shapeshift into more specialized forms for attack. All of these together are intended to give players multiple ways to complete their objectives. (Wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prototype_(video_game))
-------------------------
The Review

As the game starts out in the prologue, you have a large array of attacks available to you.  These attacks all but disappear as the actual gameplay begins.
Control-wise I don't have a lot to really complain about. I really liked how easy it was to get around the city. It gets even better as you progress through the game, purchasing upgrades with the experience points you earn. I really reminded me of the Spider-Man games, with the way you move around the city. You don't have the ability to fly or swing on webs, but you can run incredibly fast and jump extremely high.
I wasn't able to complete the entire game, but I was able to get more than half of the way through it. The story was interesting enough that I wanted to continue through the game to learn more. As you go through the game there are 'key' individuals that you have to consume in order to either get information about your current mission, get info about your past, to gain a 'costume' so you can enter restricted areas, or operate vehicles or weapons.
The Onion AV Club gave the game an "A" ranking, calling the movement style "exhilarating" and saying it was a "mature, science-fiction superhero fantasy that somehow makes players feel simultaneously powerful and vulnerable."
I would have to say that I agree.

Would you believe that a little thunder storm cut our podcast short this week? I didn't realize that my Skype connection relied on clear sky's. I guess that's why they picked the name Skype.

This week we put two major video rental services in the ring together to see which one makes it out with their disc's unscratched.

Rustin really wants to buy "Watchmen"

Skyler throws around his take on "The Spirit"

We give our little poke at the "accelerator suits" from the new G.I. Joe movie. We also poked fun at the cheesy looking trailers for said movie.

We then hope on the Comic's Express for a ride through the stack of comics Rustin has been wanting to talk about since his trip to California.

After taking a few weeks off to vacation and take some much needed time off of work, we finally manage to get ourselves back into the habit of recording a show.

Skyler was gone for about a week as he made his way to Salt Lake City to celebrate the 4th of July with his family.

Rustin (along with his wife) went on to California for a week to relax, read, and ride rides. He also celebrated his birthday since we last recorded.

In this episode:

Transformers 2 Movie and Video Game Review

Ghostbusters Video Game Review

Far Cry 2

and more...

Keep an ear peeled for next weeks episode, because Rustin has A LOT of comics he wants to talk about.

Also F.Y.I.- Registration for CES 2010 is free right now until October 1! It will take place in Vegas from January 7-10. We would love to see you there if that is something you would be able to attend.

This is a collection of snippets from our past episodes. They have been resurrected from the cutting room floor and are now all here in this wonderful episode, all for your listening pleasure.

I usually list the items that we cover in this space right here... but seeing as we didn't cover a whole hell of a lot, I decided to just go a head and type anything I feel like typing.

Don't skip to the end of the episode, but there is a tribute to The King of Poop... er, I mean Pop.

We will plan on recording next week, until then... Keep on treading the waters of mediocrity!

It's been a while since we last graced you all with our words of wisdom...

First thing first, let's talk about the news that was dropped a few weeks ago at E3. (You know... the stuff we already covered in the blog post)

Welcome to the Second Season of the Reset Radio Podcast! I guess if you wanted to get technical about it, this would really be our third season. But that's only if you counted the forever long hiatus that we took about a year ago.

New things to look forward to this "season"...

* We resurrected our forums over at forumsland.com so we can get more direct feedback about the show and the direction we are heading.

* The "Jam of the Month Club". We touched on this in the forums a bit, so if you are curious to find out more about this new addition to the Reset Radio line-up, you can know exactly when we plan on dropping this little bomb.

 * More interviews. Starting with local artist Chad Hardin. You can check out his stuff over on his blog.

* All this and MUCH more!!!

I'll try my very best to make this shorter than the source material that I'm pulling it from (Gizmodo's live blog coverage of E3).

Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr where live onstage to help announce Beatles Rockband!

Tony Hawk - RIDE is a cool excuse to have a plastic skateboard in your living room.

Really looking forward to Modern Warfare 2 to come out!

Joy Ride is a new Xbox Arcade that uses Avatars in the driver's seat. Looks kinda fun.

Left4Dead 2 coming November 17!!!

Splinter Cell: Conviction.

"Yeah, the game looks fun with varied environments like streets and museums. They still need to polish the edges, which are often distractingly pixelated. But Sam Fisher is kicking ass, Bourne-style. And like I said, the noir lighting is really fantastic."
-Mark Wilson

Halo 3 ODST, World Premier!

"But even without Master Chief and the new HUD, this feels like Halo…but maybe with a little influence from Call of Duty, with lots of your squad shouting at you all the time. And that’s a wrap for ODST."
-Mark Wilson

last.fm coming to Xbox Live dashboard

Netflix will be allowing you to add movies to your queue from the Xbox – no PC required.

Xbox’s video store has been “challenged to do more.” Today, they answered this challenge with Zune video. HD video library goes 1080P. And there’s more…

It’s called Instant On 1080P HD.

All movies and TV shows will stream instantly. And the video store is coming to 18 more countries.

Also. . .  Movies, TV and music are coming to Live Party. A group of avatars can sit together and watch content together. It was greeted with an unenthusiastic applause from the audience.

Xbox Live is partnering with Facebook.

It shares the same interface as the New Xbox Experience side scrolling windows. It actually looks a bit clunky.
Status updates are quarantined to these individual windows as well.

Twitter will also be making it's way to the 360.

The next major release from the MGS team will be called Metal Gear Solid Rising. This will also be available on the 360!!! Woot!

No controller required... Yes, this looks like the body controller that leaked a few weeks back.  Voice recognition as well. It’s called Project Natal. The sensor tracks 3D movements and recognizes voices (faces too). It’s controller-free gaming. It’s compatible with every Xbox 360 launched thus far.

Games on Demand Bringing Digital Retail to Xbox 360!!
New service launching this August that'll offer select retail 360 games for online purchase. You can even bypass the whole Microsoft point thing, and use your debit or credit card instead!

That's about it for now. We will keep you posted on more news from E3 2009!

You may or may not believe it, but We DID actually record a regular episode. But somewhere along the way the files (both of ours) got corrupted. So now here we are with a totally new (temporary) format for the show. After meshing 3 different "previously unreleased" episodes into one... This is a FEAST for your ears...

Feast or Food Poisoning... You be the judge.
  1. We venture into new territory as Reset Radio discusses food!
  2. HAPPY FREE COMIC BOOK DAY! - If you are seeing this too late, remember to mark on your calendar for next year. The first Saturday of May is Free Comic Book Day. It's designed to help fight illiteracy in children. That's right! Kids can't read, so we give them free books full of pictures! God Bless America!
I don't really remember anything else... Like I said before, I pulled this episode out of my ass... I mean compiled it from 3 other episodes.
Next week we will talk about both Wolverine and Star Trek!

If you have anything that you would like us to discuss, drop us an email at reset_radio@hotmail.com

In a press release on April 20, 2009, 20th Century Fox has noted that Tempe, Arizona has won the “Hometown Premiere” contest and will now host the world premiere of X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Full press release from 20th Century Fox is below:

“X” MARKS THE SPOT FOR TEMPE, ARIZONA – WINNER OF THE X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE HOMETOWN PREMIERE CONTEST

Tempe’s Schools, Businesses — and X-Men Fans — Come Together to Narrowly Prevail Over Davis, CA for World Premiere of Summer Blockbuster

LOS ANGELES, (April 20, 2009)….In a hard-fought contest stretching over thousands of cities and towns across the Unites States, Tempe, Arizona has emerged triumphant in its far-reaching, citywide bid to nab the world premiere event of X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE, on April 27.

The announcement caps a frenzied two-week period in which entrants launched innovative and viral campaigns, urging fellow residents to enter the Hometown Premiere contest by marking their town with a digital “X” on a special contest website. In each locale, schools, businesses, and of course X-Men and Wolverine fans, joined forces to create special videos posted on YouTube, as well as websites urging residents to enter the contest.

Tempe accumulated the most “X’s,” narrowly beating out Davis, California in a hard-fought battle to bring home a major “Hollywood” style event.

The “Origins” of the event came from Hugh Jackman, who plays the famed antihero in X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE. Jackman wanted to express his appreciation to the fans by hosting the premiere, in which he will bring the movie and a few of his “friends and enemies” from the film to Tempe. In addition to the stars and filmmakers, the event will have all the other trappings of a mega-Hollywood premiere, including the red carpet, klieg lights and media coverage.

X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE, the first chapter in the X-Men saga, unites Wolverine with several other legends of the X-Men universe, in an epic revolution that pits the mutants against powerful forces determined to eliminate them. Twentieth Century Fox releases the film everywhere May 1st.

We know it's been a few weeks since we last posted a show, but we had good intentions to. We actually recorded this weeks episode a while ago, but scheduling conflicts kept us from posting it. So here it is now...

Rustin got to see Watchmen, so we get to hear his review of the movie. Neither of us have read the book in its entirety, so in some upcoming episode we will compare the two.

Since it's been so long, I don't even remember what was all covered in this show. But I'm sure you'll be able to enjoy it nonetheless.

I just got finished watching the movie Push, starring Chris Evans and Dakota Fanning.
With the title of the movie being "Push," I was led to believe the term was being used to describe the action associated with telekinesis... or moving things with ones mind. However, this movie used this term in an entirely different way.
The word push is used as a way to describe a "Pusher".
  1. Pushers have the ability to "push" people into believing that certain things are or aren't true (like hypnosis).
  2. Watchers are able to see the future in quick flashes and scenes.
  3. Movers can move objects and people with their minds.
  4. Bleeders emit high-pitched sonic screams that make ears bleed.
  5. Stitches can disassemble or reassemble any scar tissue.
  6. Sniffs can take any object and get a history of where it's been in relation to its owner.
  7. Wipers can erase any amount of a persons memory.
  8. Shifters make objects appear to be something else (like illusionists, only more realistic).
  9. Shadows block the effectiveness of others with abilities (mainly Sniffers).
Knowing the different abilities and their "slang" names before you see this movie isn't necessary, but it would help. It's harder to get right into this movie compared to movies put out by Marvel or DC, because you have to first familiarize yourself with the backstory.  It took me a good 10 minutes to get into this movie and feel comfortable with the new terminology that was being flung in my face.
I'm not going to give you a strait breakdown of the entire plot, but I will give you a slight overview...

A group of individuals with telekinetic and clairvoyant abilities are hiding from a  U.S. government agency, which is simply called "The Division". They must utilize their different talents and band together with others for a opportunity to escape.

I thought this was a great movie. Maybe not a "Must See," but still worth watching. If you haven't already seen it... I'd put it down for a Rent, but not a Buy!

*** (3 out of 5 stars)

This being our 20th Episode, we felt that our listeners deserved some kind of recognition for putting up with us for this long... So you now unlocked the "My ears are bleeding" Achievement. We hope that makes you feel like you have accomplished something just for listening to us bitch and moan about stuff for the past year and a half.
That being said... On with the show notes!

This week we actually had somewhat of a topic that we wanted to cover.  The topic for this week was "Terminator: Salvation"
We didn't really know what to think about the movie at first, and then Christian Bale had his little "tirade" while on set (like nobody has heard it yet...). The light at the end of the tunnel was the trailer that was released just a little while ago. We now have the trailer on our main page if you'd like to check it out.

Also in this show...

The Force Unleashed
Laughing while donating plasma
Rustin's backyard gets a Spring pep talk
If Bruce Wayne never became Batman
SuperBatman!
Too many Sub-plots in Heroes
Knight Rider rips off Transformers idea... kinda
The Watchmen (stay tuned for our review in next episode)
Sam Jackson bites the bullet and hops back on board with Avengers
Seems like Marvel has movies put out by everyone
The new Robin Hood movie, a.k.a. Nottingham

We are always more than happy to hear from our listeners.

Hey guys! Skyler Here. I was just browsing around youtube today and saw the most horrible display of "news" I've ever seen!

Being the giving person that I am, I've decided to share this "gut wrenching" experience with the listeners of Reset Radio. I hope you pass the word along about how the Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtles saved this woman's life.

I hope you may all find it in your hearts to forgive me for this... But at least it's not a "Rick Roll"!!!!

In this stunning episode of Reset Radio...

Hair Plugs for Men. . . Just Kidding.

I'm not going to itemize the show notes as much this time, because 1) I'm tired and 2) I'm LAZY. So you're just stuck reading whatever I feel like typing. Not to mention, I don't remember EVERYTHING we talked about (or at least the parts I kept).

We made yet another attempt to record from Skype... You'll have to excuse Rustin's blaring voice during this episode, and pray that we get the sound levels right for the next show... But you know what they say. "Practice makes perfect." (or something like that)

  1. We hash out some news dealing with legal stuff from the Watchmen movie.
  2. Talk a bit about the G.I. Joe "star power"
  3. A short list of tech items that make you look like a douche
  4. Rustin gets his legs movin' with his cool little toy
  5. Super useless Super Powers to the rescue!

Stalk us at http://twitter.com/resetradio
email us at reset_radio@hotmail.com
call us at 1-800-555-We Don't Have a Number... Jackass!
(disregard the last one. but we may get a Skype phone number in the future)

Thanks to all of our listeners who have contributed to the INTRO CONTEST! If you would still like to send in an intro, send an MP3 file to the email above.

We didn't really take too many pictures at CES, mostly because we were too busy looking at all the cool stuff. But here are some, if not all of the pictures we took!

Photobucket Photobucket
These were taken in the "Lobby" area of the convention center.

Photobucket Photobucket

This is us at the Microsoft booth playing some Halo Wars!

Photobucket
The Microsoft "Surface" Table over at the NBC booth.

Photobucket
We were both very impressed by this massive 108 inch LCD flat-panel TV!

Photobucket
Rus is playing WoW in 3D at the NVidia booth. He actually logged in to his account and played his own character.

Photobucket Photobucket

It's amazing, the lengths people will go to in order to get attention. We were NOT going to be a part of this debauchery.

Photobucket Photobucket

Skyler testing out his musical skills. He says he really is good at playing "the real drums."

Photobucket
This is the only "good" picture we got of a "booth girl." This was at the Flatwire booth. She surprised us with how much she really did know about the product.

Photobucket Photobucket

Photobucket
Rustin got to pose next to a couple awesome cars, but Sky got to pose next to this tiny boat! It's not the size of the boat that matters, it's the motion in the ocean!

Photobucket Photobucket

We took this as we were leaving on Sunday afternoon. We hope we get to go back next year!

Our first Skype Reset Radio Episode
We try our hardest to cope with the 1.5 sec delay throughout the entire show. You can't tell now, because we fixed it... kinda.

In this massive hour and a half long episode:

What we did for Christmas (where we went and such)
Rustin is scared of the fast-moving zombies in "Left4Dead"
Sucking more at "Call of Duty: World at War" due to Veteran mode
Take the Safety off in order to kill the chickens in "Fable 2"
"You said intercourse"
Slow Motion Head shots on "Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway"
"The Dark Knight" DVD was in both of our Christmas stockings
Is "Wolverine" going to suck hardcore or exceed our expectations
Brendan Frasier is going to be in the G.I. Joe movie? Seriously?!?
Cobra Commander to be played by... the dude from 10 things I hate about you & 3rd rock from the sun.
Alf vs. Howard the Duck
Movie poster released for "Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen"
Shazam is kaput
"Smallville" gets DC Comics writer Geoff Johns to write for "Legion" episode
"Heroes" isn't new until February 2nd... Sorry for the wrong info Rus :)
CES... Finally
It seemed like everyone at CES had 3D, but only two really stood out to us.
Skyler got to play "Guitar Hero" in 3D
Rustin got to log into "Warcraft" and play in 3D
We were confounded by the concept of "Flatwire" at CES
The new Intel processor is AWESOME
Hands-on with the Microsoft Surface
Reset Radio got to Demo "Halo Wars" before you did! HA!!
All This and Much Much More!!!

We, in our infinite wisdom, have decided to "push back" Episode 16 a bit, in order to collect a more full scope of the happenings of the 2008 year. We understand the desire to hear an "End of the Year Recap" pre-2009, but on the other hand... How can it truly be a show focused on the entire year, without watching the entire year come to a close? Keeping this in mind, you will be graced with our newest episode, Episode 16, in a few days.

On a totally different note...

"The Greatest Podcast Intro Ever."

We are going to have a CONTEST of sorts. We take a lot of time to put together, edit, and post the Reset Radio podcasts. But, I was thinking/hoping one of our listeners out there, may want to lend their talents to us. I have come to the conclusion that, despite the desire I have to do all the editing for the show, I need help to put together a NEW RESET RADIO INTRO.

All you need is a DESIRE to be the BEST...
  1. If you are in a band or if you know someone that is, we would like you to call upon the Gods of Rock to give us the best intro on the web.
  2. If you are a master with sound editing software, it's time to remove yourself from your grandmothers basement and show the world your talents.
  3. If you have a radio announcer voice that would make Casey Kasem crawl under a rock, help us give the gift of knowledge to the uninformed.
All you need to do is create a 60 second intro for us to use as a "Standard" opening for all of our future shows. It has to say "Reset Radio" and, if you can make it fit and make it sound good, the tag line "Taking Over the World, One Game-Save at a Time."

Send all entries to reset_radio@hotmail.com with the Subject: INTRO

This contest is open to EVERYBODY. If your intro is chosen, we will try to get you on the show so you can talk about how you made "The Greatest Podcast Intro Ever."

Well, it looks like another year has fallen by the wayside and a new year is just starting to rear its ugly head and... Oh look, here we are to force feed you this specially fortified and certifiably Christma-tized Reset Radio episode. We went a little bit skimpy on the Christmas fluff and just went right on in to the nitty-gritty. We covered all the significant video games, tech toys, movies and TV for this holiday season.

We have to give a very special thanks to all of our followers over at Twitter! We enjoy hearing what you think about the show. For those of you who would like to give us your two cents, you can send us an email at reset_radio@hotmail.com.

We hope that you have a very happy holiday season this year, and if you'd like to make a donation to the Reset Radio fund . . . make all check out to "CASH."  Just kidding . . . kinda!

This weeks show if chalk full of ... Movie Characters? Yep, that's correct! We list off the Top 20 out of the best 100 Movie Characters. We also talk about the Reset Radio crew (that being Rustin and Skyler) heading to Vegas January 10th for the CES consumer technology tradeshow. Things are kind of slowing a bit in the movie theaters, "The Dark Knight" is going to be re-released in late January. The World War II film "Valkyrie" starring Tom Cruise (based on the true story of a failed plot to kill Hitler) will hit theaters this Christmas... Because nothing quite says Merry Christmas like taking the whole family to see a movie about killing Hitler. We also briefly touch on the possiblility of producing and selling Reset Radio T-Shirts with our newer logo. If you have any feedback drop us an email at reset_radio@hotmail.com or leave a comment on this post. As always, thanks for listening!
